3. I believe (Inst.)

This is ayaka’s debut single and it was released on February 1, 2006. The single reached #3 on the Oricon Weekly Charts and sold 236,012 copies. The title track was used as the theme song for the drama Rondo.

I believe is a mid paced ballad and it opens with a beautiful piano and string ensemble. I was really surprised by ayaka’s vocals because I did not expect them to sound the way they were. The pitch of her of voice is actually quite deep, giving it a unique quality compared to other artists. I guess you could compare her voice to Mika Nakashima’s, but it’s still pretty different. ayaka reaches the high notes in the chorus exceptionally well.

The B-side is the upbeat Yume no Kakera. The music is a combination of gritty acoustic guitar and percussion. ayaka’s vocals are a lot more free spirited and cheerful than the previous track, proving she can sing more than just ballads. Like Yuna Ito and K, ayaka is best known in the music industry for her ballads, but she can really dish out an excellent upbeat song too.
