1. Mienai Hoshi (見えない星)
3. Mienai Hoshi (Instrumental)
4. I LOVE YOU (Instrumental)

This is Mika Nakashima’s 21st single and it was released on February 21, 2007. The single reached #4 on the Oricon Weekly Charts and sold 60,985 copies.

Mienai Hoshi is the return of the classic Mika Nakashima ballad. It has a lot of the past elements of her previous ballads which make it stand out amongst her previous ‘Southern inspired’ singles. However, there are still some gospel vibes in the song thanks to the quiet organ and the background vocals during the bridge. It’s a very pretty song and I am REALLY glad she is back to the style she does best.

The B-side is a cover of the famous song originally performed by Yutaka Ozaki. I LOVE YOU has also been covered by other famous artists including Utada Hikaru. Nakashima’s version is more string based and she definitely does justice to the original. The overall arrangement of the song is lovely and along with Nakashima’s vocals, I really liked it. A gospel, piano based version of the song appears on her latest album YES.

Overall Rating

4½ stars
