This is JYONGRI’s 7th single and it was released on April 29, 2009. The single reached #23 on the Oricon Weekly Charts and sold 4,290 copies.

JYONGRI delivers another great A-side but this time in the form of a melancholy pop ballad. Musically, Maybe Someday is a little different from her previous material as well. It doesn’t have that lingering R&B sound and relies on percussion and light electric guitar chords to keep up the pace instead. Overall, I liked this change and it goes quite nicely with the prominent piano. I have to give a special mention to the chorus, my favorite part of the song, because it’s pretty catchy and features strong vocals too.

The first B-side is Special, an odd track that is mostly comprised of tiny beats and piano with some trings thrown in. I just find the structure of the arrangement to be kind of strange and spacy since it doesn’t really seem to go anywhere. This isn’t necessarily bad…just weird. Ignore the corny lyrics of the chorus and this is a decent song.

Then we have First Kiss, a song that is of typical JYONGRI flair. It’s a cutesy upbeat song with light R&B elements and random brass. Unlike Special, which was pretty bland, this track is bouncy and at least sounds like it has a personality. It’s definitely the better B-side on the single, but it still doesn’t top Maybe Someday.

Overall Rating

3½ stars

  2. I know you aren’t a lyric site, but I seriously have looked everywhere and don’t know where else to turn. DO you have any magic that could conjure up the lyrics for “Special” xD ?
